ADHD…An Asset not a condition
Written by: Jacquie Hermans, Light’n UP Expert
ADHD is referred to as a condition. I don’t believe it is a condition, I believe it is simply a different operating system then what the ‘norm’ is used to. It’s time to understand this unique operating system and not label it as a deficiency.
Individuals who have a hard time focusing on one task, whose minds are going a mile a minute, who need to move rather than sit still, simply need to learn how to work with their ‘program’. Individuals who experience the above mentioned, can look at their diets and see where they can exchanged processed and sugary foods with more natural choices, ensure they get lots of physical exercise, alone time in a calm environment where they can regenerate, and learn strategies for focusing on tasks when immediate completion is important and goal setting with strategies for long term initiatives.
Individuals who can relate to ADHD type of behaviour should realize the powerful benefits of such a processing system. You can process lots of information at once, problem solving occurs on multiple levels in seconds, multitasking comes naturally, and creative big picture thinking is a breeze. These are just a few of the amazing pros to this style of thinking.
Once we delete the ‘wrongness’ about ADHD, individuals can become empowered with who they are and how they function. Who they are is perfect. Let’s use those assets to their fullest and learn some techniques to function in a focused and action oriented manner.
Jason Froats is a professionally trained achievement coach and a good friend of mine. His focus is to assist individuals who have been challenged with ADHD style of thinking.

Great blog Jaquie…I couldn't agree more…I feel the same way about Autism, which my son has…I have always seen it as a gift rather than a disability, and have often envied his amazing photographic memory, his ability to block out negative energy, his attuned awareness of others moods and his highly developed sense of humour.
Thanks.
great article J!!!
I was chatting with someone about this recently and she commented that we used to have Hunters and Gatherers – The traits typical to ADHD people are perfect for Hunters – we just don't have the same space for them in our current society, so they get labeled as if something wrong is with them.
