The Power of Energy for Performance

October 21st, 2014

Jacquie Hermans wrote this article in 2010 and decided to republish it on her website.

Some of you may have heard Jacquie relate Emotional Intelligence to energy. Our thoughts, create our emotions and our emotions create energy that affects our holistic balance and affects all of our interactions. About 8 years prior to writing this article, Jacquie took her first energy healing training certification, which opened up her world to acknowledge the power of energy that resides within us and that is always around us.

After a 22 year hiatus from competitive swimming, I had the opportunity to step up to the racing block again with my local Masters Swim Club at Provincials this past March. What an adrenaline rush! I not only loved the energy of the whole experience, but also the joy of collegiality with my teammates. It was also an amazing opportunity to prove to myself how well I can perform.

At this event I had the goal of breaking through old thought patterns like “I’m not fast” or “You’re not good, why do you do it?” as well as swimming the fastest I could possibly swim.

Have you ever said to yourself, “If I knew then what I know now things would be so different”? Well, I had the opportunity to relive an experience with new knowledge. I not only had more confidence in who I am and what I can accomplish, I also had knowledge and experience of working with ENERGY.

Taking full advantage of who I am today, I fueled my body with energy, while setting the intent of optimal performance. Without anyone knowing, as I stood several feet away from the racing block waiting for my heat to begin, I consciously breathed in the energy of the universe–the energy of the plants, trees, and animals–through my crown chakra (an energy centre located on the crown of your head) and brought it down into every inch of my being. I felt full of life and enjoyed the intensity of the vibration that filled me.

I stepped up to the block with total confidence and absolute Joy and Peace. I mounted the block in a state of total concentration.

“Swimmers, take your marks.”

The horn blared and I dove in with strength and determination.

My first race of the meet was 50 metres of freestyle. I finished the race, astonished as I looked around and saw the rest of the competitors still swimming. I not only came in first in my heat, but beat my time by 4 seconds and finished within the top 10 for my age group in Ontario.

The rest of my races were just as exciting. For my 200 metre freestyle, I beat my time by 13 seconds and finished 8th in Ontario for my age group, 50 metre breast stroke, again, shaved off seconds and finished 7th in Ontario and so forth.

Don’t underestimate the power of energy! You have access to it!

If you don’t currently work with it, even if you have no interest in becoming a healing practitioner, you may want to consider signing up for an “energy based” healing course to use for your own purpose. See what resonates with you. It might be Reiki, Quantum Touch, Emotional Freedom Technique, or one of the several other energy-related modalities out there.

May the power be with you–or should I say within you!
